A simple door, with so many memories

I asked people about this at work and even the ones who regularly use victoria station didnt know it was there.

The gate isnt used any more but its a sobering thought that a lot of manchester men walked through here to get onto troop trains, eventually ending up in france and further afield, and never made the return journey.

I love the understated nature of this memorial, nothing showy, just an acknowledgment of the part this simple door played in the history of so many people, seems to make it all the more moving.
