Meet the ancestors

Life upon Earth began some 3.5 billion years ago and probably resembled this scum floating on the surface of the estuary this morning.

Tomorrow the descendants of that primordial scum will launch the James Webb space telescope and use it to look back to very early years of the Universe. We have come a long way!
