4144 storms Cranbrook Road crossing

The last day of the Santa Specials found me at Cranbrook Road level crossing working the gates for today’s final 7 round trips. What a relief to be able to complete the Santa programme.

4144 once again put in a stirring performance as it attacked the 1:50 gradient up to and over the crossing and on to Tenterden. The other two engines on today, No 300 and No 25 gave no less a performance in their own right. All three made a magnificent sight each time they worked up the bank. (See extras)

I’m waiting now for the last up train from Northiam and for the light engine return before I can go home and enjoy Christmas Eve evening.

We are running trains over the New Year weekend Including a members special as the last service of the season and year on 3rd January. We are supposed to be in Edinburgh for Hogmanay but are increasingly concerned about the risks that would entail.

Susan was delighted by your lovely comments about her Christmas card this year. She has asked me to pass on her thanks for your kindness.

So, all that remains is for us both to wish all of you and your families a merry Christmas. We hope the day is of the very best for you all
