Stirling castle

There is something magical about strolling around Stirling castle empty of crowds late on Christmas Eve an hour before it closes. We live less than four miles away and it’s something we have done for many years usually accompanied by house guests, except this year because of Covid we are on our own.  We expect the place to be even quieter than normal because of the pandemic and I must admit to feeling nervous about going but reckoned it would be windy up at the castle ( it was) and there would be plenty of space. So no problem social distancing.

But we are in for a surprise. The place is busy with tours. Even the castle staff comment on it. Why so many people? I ask. They dont know.
One castle guard suggests: “Maybe we are the only place open.”

Anyway, Merry Christmas one and all!
