It's Christmas Time

by Status Quo

A day with mixed feelings. We lost my bonus daughter and her husband as they flew south to enjoy the Christmas Day dinner with her father. My wife and I went to do a 6 km test skiing with our new skis with hair bottom in the middle (check the left-hand ski of my wife in the main blip). They worked well and the hairy part provided the hold friction needed to avoid slipping when advancing. It was -9C at that time. Finally we managed to see also northern lights for a short time - unfortunately they disappeared before we reached a good position to photograph them.

Just a brief mention of the hairy bottom history. In the past, people in northern Finland used skis where one was for actual gliding and the other one was covered with reindeer fur i.e. had a reindeer hair bottom. The hairy one was used to kick back to gain speed and the other for gliding. The gliding one was much longer than the hairy one.

The extras show the snowy road when driving to the airport in the morning, the lit ski track as it was getting darker around 14:30, and the best shot of today's northern lights.
