Vertical lift-bridge

Historically, the river Gouwe was part of the primary shipping route in the Netherlands, connecting Dordrecht with Haarlem and later Amsterdam. Today, the Gouwe is still an important shipping route. The river also serves as the main water outlet for the Rhineland region.
On the way to Moerkapelle, from where we walked, I noticed the three historic vertical lift bridges. The bridges are very tall and can't be missed. I like them very much. They are intriguing if only because they don't seem to fit in the completely flat countryside.

In my extra an impression of the area in which we walked. The land of narrow elongated green polders framed by silver-glowing canals and long, never seem to ending, orange illuminated greenhouses that occasionally reflect the sun.(also silver-coloured).
It felt freezing cold.
