Ottoman House in Arnavutköy

Until the 20th century, Istanbul was an almost entirely wooden city. Fire was an ever-present danger, and eventually concrete replaced burned structures. Now those that remain are protected. Sort of. They can't be taken down and the expense of restoration is very high. Those that have been restored are magnificent. Many, like this one, are simply left until they fall down.
