Ladies Walk

This is a path by the River Eden, still known as Ladies Walk. Originally built to provide shelter for residents of Eden Hall, a large mansion near Langwathby. Beside the walls, people could enjoy a gentle meander by the river. The wall is now covered in moss, but the path is still a very popular local walk.

Eden Hall was built in 1824 and was situated in a beautiful park, with lawns sloping down to the edge of the Eden, so presumably the walled walk was built around the same time. The Hall was demolished in 1934, but an impressive entrance lodge still exists and parts of the garden, including Ladies Walk and sets of stone steps, can still be seen.

Further along the path is this.
