The pond.

This is all that remains of what was Southport Kew Gardens, named after the famous one in Surrey. The site was opened in the mid 1800's with a hotel and grounds of 13 acres which expanded over the years. Eventually there were entertainments, gardens a large lake and a zoo.
As the site was on the outskirts of the growing town the access was improved by the addition of a railway station.
The attraction thrived into the early 1900's when a fire destroyed the zoo with many of the animals perishing
Now there are houses, a business park and a hospital on the site and the land surrounding it.
The pond is in the grounds of the hospital.
