Charlotte Square

There were many people out and about in Edinburgh today enjoying the blue skies and very mild temperatures.

Charlotte Square is at the west end of George Street.  In 1786 it was renamed after King George III's Queen and their eldest daughter.

The large statue in the gardens is a memorial to Prince Albert, the consort of Queen Victoria.  He died in 1861 and Queen Victoria herself unveiled this work in 1876.

At No. 6 Charlotte Square is Bute House, the official residence of the First Minister of Scotland.  You can see it between Prince Albert and the Christmas Tree in the photo.
