We eventually managed to get out of the house to pick up the car and drove West to visit family. The bings are newish feature of the West Lothian landscape. They are the spoils from the first Scottish oil boom in the 19th century when oil shales were mined to extract paraffin. Visiting the bings has been on my list for ages. Maybe something for next year.

We had a wonderful time seeing family.
