Family Outing

It was a rainy day, so we headed up to San Francisco for Things To Do.

J wanted to take the classic shot of the Golden Gate bridge from the northern side, so we drove over (in the rain) and sat at the viewpoint (in the rain). Being a single-minded kind of a guy, he got out anyway, and took pictures. R slept in the back of the car. I took some interesting shots of the pelting raindrops on the road, through the wet windscreen of the car. We two are not so concerned with carrying out plans to their exact original design....

Everyone having got cranky, we drove back across the bridge (still in the rain) and sought out food. That always helps. The nearest food happened to be next to Fort Point, which was built to defend the entrance to San Francisco bay. When they came to build the bridge, the fort, of course, was right where the bridge needed to be, so they just went right over the top of it. It was a pretty interesting, low key place to visit - I'd recommend it for the snippets of history and the photographic textures: brick, girders, rivets, sea, rocks.

And the rain stopped.

We came home down the coast, which is wild and gorgeous, especially on a windy day. And bought pie at a farm on the way. It just got better and better.
