Murmuration

A huge flock of starlings have been gathering every evening for the past few days over Meole, one of the suburbs of Shrewsbury, presumably because most of the countryside is under snow. I have no idea at all how many there are, or even how you would start to work it out but it seems a reasonable guess that there are more than 50,000 of them. It's amazing and awe-inspiring to watch them wheeling and flocking overhead as the whole sky seems to be filled with birds, all moving together, and I've been to watch a couple of times already and will go back as often as I can while the spectacle lasts.
