Snap, crackle, and pop

Bling, bang

It was a miserable morning so I decided to make myself bright and cheerful. Purple, pink, and sequins.

An unpleasant 2 hour drive over dreadful road surfaces culminated in a clash of mirrors just a few km before our planned shopping stop. We pulled out to avoid a huge lump in the road, only to find a white van overtaking us at speed and too close. He took out our wing mirror with his own.

He did eventually pull up, several km down the road. Although he took responsibility and was willing to offer a phone number, we couldn't get him to do the formal paperwork (our insurance papers being in French and therefore "too difficult"). We had to settle for noting his number plate and vehicle description.

It was an unsettling experience. It could have been far worse but sometimes I think it is that very knowledge that makes one feel worse. All those "what if?"s...

After an hour or so of attempting cross language communications and trying unsuccessfully to do the right thing, we watched the van disappear into the distance and then went shopping.

On arriving at the campsite we were greeted with "Do you have a negative test?" We said no, we hadn't. We had booked a few days ago by email and in doing so had asked did we need a test. The reply had been "Not after the 2nd". Today is the 4th. Our confirmation of booking arrived yesterday and said nothing about needing a test. The chap on the desk was very patronising, displayed an unnecessary degree of attitude and managed to rub us up the wrong way.

Mr L was really quite angry and did not behave very well. Understandably, perhaps, as he was very much stressed out by then.

So, still rattled by our collision, we had to drive off again and with no rear vision, to the pharmacy on the far side of town to buy our test packs and return to the campsite again to do the tests under observation.

It has in short, been a bugger of a day. I am so glad that I wore purple, it has genuinely provided just a little emotional bolstering.

Where's the gin?
