Wednesday Walk

A sunny but cold day, the wind making the measured 5 deg C seem much lower. We had to go to Diss so did an extended walk around the town. The Mere - a relatively deep lake - is in the heart of the town but until recently the public have only been able to access it from the park on the south side, the other shores being in private ownership. About four years ago the council developed a short boardwalk.and wildflower garden on the north eastern edge, but each time we've looked at it it's been inexplicably locked. Today a friendly local who knew the access code let us in, so we were able to walk across the water and admire the ducks and reflections. The terraced garden was relatively dormant, as expected, but there was some butterbur flowering (too cold & windy to try to photograph!). The extra is the view across the Mere from the park and shows the boardwalk and adjacent properties, with St Mary's Church in the background.
