Victoria Fountain Manchester Road

No blip for yesterday due to a hectic day.So this one is backdated.

Sited near Whitehead gardens, Manchester Road. The drinking trough was erected in 1897 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Victoria's reign.

Behind the fountain you will see Whitehead Gardens which the monolithic Whitehead Clock Tower which was designed by architects Maxwell and Tuke and commemorates Walter Whitehead. Henry Whitehead had this clock in mind to commemorate the death of his brother Walter.

Walter Whitehead (1840-1913) Was responsible for designing the torpedo. There is a memorial to this also in the gardens the clock stands in. More on Whitehead In later blips.
