Night Owls (Not Nighthawks)

A big event--we're out after dark, driving across town to pick up some dinner. Shopper's Corner is our favorite local supermarket, a small place that manages to have almost everything you need. The old wood floor has a wonderful patina, the staff is friendly, the meat market is well stocked, and they carry lots of local products. When I was much younger I was terribly intimidated by that meat counter. A pound of something meant nothing to me. I couldn't envision it. I didn't know how to figure out the cost unless it was in a weighed and labelled package. Operating on a ridiculously tight budget, I couldn't take a chance on something unknown. I stuck to the chain stores and what I could see.
