A beautiful day with a slight wind but not as cold as yesterday. We went for a walk at West Harling - partly because it's relatively close, partly because I wanted to extend my collection of photos to use for publicity for our club's orienteering event there in early February. We chose a new route to the south east of our usual parking spot and which took us through areas of beech and heathland before taking us back through the conifer plantations. The photo spots were chosen to be of interest to orienteers - clear, bramble & bracken-free ground to run across, features which could be used by the planner as potential control sites, that sort of thing. I've no idea whether the planner is actully going to use that particular section of the forest, & we didn't stray off the larger forest tracks & paths, so I can't be accused of having an unfair advantage!!

I selected this particular one to Blip as I liked the patterns & lines formed by the sunlit trunks and the "wigwam" plus the shadows emphasising the curve of the concave track. I've no idea who constructed the "wigwam", or whether it's to dry the wood or to form a shelter for children playing. We often come across them in the forest and the more permanent ones are sometimes used as control sites in orienteering competitions.

It was an excellent walk - let's hope that the infection rates stabilise and that the event will be able to go ahead!
