Sty

This is what pig stys looked like in South Wales in 1800.  This one was rebuilt a few years ago at the Welsh Folk Musem in St Fagans near Cardiff.  Pigs were very important for families to rear as every part of the pig apart from its squeal could be used.  The pig stys were built as circular stone constructions as pigs like to dig in corners so this made it more difficult for them to dig their way out.  The museum is very good with lots of buildings to explore from a selection of eras. I was particularly fascinated by the row of iron worker's cottages fro Merthyr Tydfil, the prefabricated building, the Cock pit, the school and the Workers' Institute.

We have had an interesting couple of days away finding lots of potential for a bit of photography too!
