Sun setting on Leysin

…. from Panex, the Tors above the village, ancient limestone atolls, catch the last rays.

The sunny aspect of this area transformed the village of Leysin into a town full of sanatoria for those suffering from TB until the advent of penicillin in the 1960s. In its heyday, in the 1930s, there were 6000 people living there of which half were patients from all over the world, 300 were nurses and 50, were doctors! Now these big, old, buildings are international schools, and hotel schools for the most part. I lived there for 5 years in my late 20s and early 30s, and still have quite a few friends living there. It holds a special place in my heart.

P.S. just found this amazing bit of film from 1944 plus some other interesting parallels with covid ….
