Mono Monday: "Fact or Fiction"

For this week's challenge, we're invited to post a photo that represents a story, true or made up.

This is the gravestone of Burrish Lyons, owner and master of the brig "Mary" of London which, on the stormy night of on the night of 7th September 1807, foundered on the rocks between Cullen and Portknockie. All the crew perished.

Lyons was known to be Christian, so was buried in the kirkyard. (This stone was erected by his brother some years later.) There being no definitive knowledge of the crewmen's religious observance, however, they were not permitted to be interred in consecrated ground; their remains were buried behind the nearby jail.
