Sgwarnog: In the Field

Avenue

Monday night football down at Horsfall Stadium where Bradford (Park Avenue) were hosting Gateshead in a National League North fixture. A derby of sorts for me, as Gateshead is where I lived before moving down to Bradford.

The teams are at opposite ends of the table. Gateshead have invested again after their demotion for financial irregularities a few seasons ago and unusually for this league are fully professional. Bradford are having another wobbly year, hovering just above the relegation places.

It looked like it would be a one-sided match with Gateshead three up by half-time, but Avenue pulled two back very quickly at the beginning of the second half. The Tynesiders soon added a fourth though, and that was enough to see the game out. 2-4 the final score.

One of the slightly annoying things about midweek games here is that I have to leave a couple of minutes before the end to catch the last bus back into town, which then connects with my bus home. So today’s image came from hovering around the exit gate just as the game was coming to a close.
