A splash of magic

I went back to the Wolseley Centre ( the headquarters of the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust) for the first time for ages.

Avian flu means that feeding the ducks is banned. Repair work means that part of the boardwalk is fenced off, and the soggy conditions mean you can’t go through the meadow. Lots of work to be done, apart from routine tidying etc.

It was quiet. The outdoor volunteers are back for the first time this year and it was good to see old friends.

I went round to the bird hide and it didn’t take long for us to have a real treat.

First the little grebe was pottering around.

And the kingfisher spent a while perched across the lake from us.

Suddenly, he took off and with a shiny flash of blue, he headed off to fish.
