Best Foot Forward

Another family walk turned family adventure...

We set out to enjoy a walk in the woods but headed off the road up a path that took us winding through trees and bushes, along the ridge of a rocky outcrop and out onto the better-worn path to Binny Craig.

Apart from the enjoyment of all the birdsong in the woods, we were treated to great views from the top of Binny Craig - the visibility was excellent - though we hadn't intended to climb the hill when we set off.

So often in life, the end justifies the means and the destination is the focus of all our activity. But I feel that God is far more interested in the journey - in spending time with us, walking with us in things we will enjoy, taking our hand and helping us over the rocks, keeping us safe every step of the way while allowing us the thrill and risk of the unexpected adventure.

I had a moment at home today when I looked at the piano and was so glad we'd taken the bold step of buying a baby grand last year. I then realised that the three best decisions we have made in the last few years were also the most risky ones at the time. I certainly am glad we took those risks!

It really isn't about our destination in life. It's about who we share the journey with, and what we learned on the way, and whether we gave of ourselves to help another. It's about choices and risks, and adventure.
