Druids Oak

A friend and I went for a particularly damp walk around Burnham Beeches.  We managed to get lost (it was foggy as well as raining) and found ourselves in front of this magnificent tree.  It's called the Druids Oak and is 800 years old, the oldest tree in the forest, 9m tall and 9m wide.  It has survived so long because it was regularly pollarded for firewood over the centuries.  It is still pollarded by the City of London (who own the forest) for the sake of its own health and longevity.
