Salt on the road

Not much going on today. I went for a quick walk on my lunch break to pick up a coffee for Jill. On the way back, I snapped this photo of the salt on the road. I don't like it. Yes, it melts the ice and snow, but it's bad for the environment. But I don't know if there's an alternative.
