Izmal, Mexico's "yellow" town...

I have always felt that close to iconic sights, are likely to be under-exploited photographic gems ; the Arizona slot canyons not far from the Grand Canyon, Pelstrina on the outskirts of Venice etc. Christmas was spent in Mexico and we went to see the iconic sight of Chichen Itza, the famous Mayan pyramid etc. A spot of "proximate" Googling suggested photo opportunity at nearby Izmal, a town about an hour to the north west. One explanation if that the town was painted yellow for the Pope's visit in 1993, but it is more likely that this style of decor pre-dates that visit. Either way, an interesting spot for the travel photographer...
