WILD GERANIUM

It's Flower Friday and I offer this bunch of Wild Geranium (Geranium maculatum) for your consideration.

Clearly, this was shot earlier in the year as right now actively growing flowers are hard to come by in this area except at the florist shop. We have an abundance of flowers, even this time of year, but they are nestled under an insulating blanket of snow awaiting the Spring thaw.

Interesting aside: Notice the dark lines in the flower petals? They glow like neon when seen in UV light. Most pollinating insects can see UV, bees especially, and these lines are just like a series of runways directing the insect right to where the nectar/pollen is. It's a beautiful thing.

Did you notice the Crane Fly using one blossom as a landing spot?
