Bird Ringing at Pensthorpe

B and I came across a group from the British Trust for Ornithology carrying  out bird ringing this morning.  This beautiful bluetit has just been ringed and we were able to take a few photos before it was released.

Apparently, The Norfolk Ornithologists Association has been carrying out ringing at Pensthorpe since 2006, with all of the information gathered going to a data bank at the BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) in Thetford. With their data research they have managed to track down where some of the birds seen at Pensthorpe travel to.

They normally carry out bird ringing in the summer and this is the first time they've ringed in the winter.  One of the ringers told us that the number of birds caught was down 20% last year.
