Savoch Kirkyard

Isolated Savoch Kirk was built by public subscription in 1834 opposite the parish school. The architect is reputed to have 'received a snuff box for his trouble'. The pink granite obelisk in the foreground proudly proclaims that the Kirkyard was laid out by the parishioners at a cost of £300 and was opened in 1877'. The reverse of the obelisk states that it also marks the grave of Arthur Forbes, the first person to be buried in the Kirkyard.

The kirk closed in 1997 and like so many abandoned country kirks is now slowly falling into sad disrepair.
