Hart's Tongue

I sat by the river wondering where the dippers were, I haven't seen them for a while. Nearby, growing between the rocks, I saw this Hart's tongue fern with its orange spores highlighted by the sun. The fronds are supposed to look like a deer's tongue. Just a few hundred yards away the river to the East is called the Irwch, which is Welsh for roe deer. And then I wondered what this area was like a thousand years ago.......
