Castle Campbell

Decided this morning to go to Dollar and revisit Castle Campbell, we have been there several times before but not for many years. The walk through the Glen beneath the castle was unfortunately closed because of a damaged bridge so we walked up the road and with perfect timing arrived at the castle entrance at 12.14 to be told they close for lunch at 12.15! Wandered further up the hill behind the castle where the burns of Care and Sorrow were rushing with water and cascading down the hill in little waterfalls.
The castle was built in the early 1400’s and was originally known as Castle Gloume. Around 1465, it passed through marriage to Colin Campbell, 1st Earl of Argyll and was renamed Castle Campbell.
Under todays grey skies, Castle Gloume is a very appropriate name!
