War of the Thistles 2009 Day 1

To the uninitiated, War of the Thistles is an annual skateboard competition/jam/get together that we as SkateboardScotland organise.

2 days, 2 skateparks, a whole load of fun.

Day 1 this year today was held at the Unit23 skatepark in Dumbarton. Incidentally, the biggest indoor (possibly biggest period) skatepark in the country. Word around the campfire was that today might not have been as busy as the first day traditionally is because we were hearing of a lot of Scottish skaters were only going up to Aberdeen tomorrow. Turned out really good.

Overall skater of the day was Englishman Rob Smith (not pictured) who skated brilliantly all day.

Rest of the day can be viewed over at Skateboard Scotland.

Up to Aberdeen tomorrow for the second leg. Canny wait.

Meet Ben, Ben Leyden. Ben is one of Scottish and British skateboardings most recognizable faces and one of the many resultant rippers to come out of Livingston Skatepark, hence "Livi Made". Ben is one of a number of Scottish skaters who has raised to the heights of professional sponsorship having his own signature board on top of other sponsorship deals.

I don't think I have ever seen Ben without a smile on his face. A diamond geezer.
