Coombe

We went to Coombe Country Park today.  We've not been there before but wanted to for a while.  The park of about 500 acres is owned and run by Coventry City Council and comprises woods, lakes, gardens and an activity centre with a very imposing zip wire.  There is also a large visitor centre complete with a cafe.  Coombe Abbey Hotel stands in the grounds, the original Abbey dating back to the 12th century, the grounds being designed by Capability Brown in 1771 which includes a lake 1.5 miles long.

We had a very nice walk through some of the woods. It is an ideal place for bird watching, waterfowl, herons, smaller birds such as robins, tits and chaffinch and lots of pigeons. The photo shows part of the lake with the Abbey Hotel in the background.

It has been a cold day, but very bright and sunny.  We had a picnic lunch at one of the tables by the woods.
