Today’s lecture at Torquay Museum was about the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Paignton Cemetery has 40 First World War burials, 1 being an unidentified sailor of the Royal Navy, and 43 from the Second World War.
All CWGC headstones are standard. They are inscribed with name, rank, service no, religious emblem, and a personal inscription provided by the family. Also there may be a regimental badge or crest.
Charles Baker died of pneumonia in Oldway Mansion hospital, Paignton, one of many who died there who are buried in the cemetery.
