Walk in the Woods

Checking out a trail today at Whinlatter was a chilly cheerful affair. Frost overnight and still thick on the shady side of the mountain but at midday sun was sliding between the fir trunks splashing green shadows onto pillows of moss. In Japan the moss gardens are manicured, weeded and every pine needle removed. Here they just suck up sun and water and take their chances with the other plant life. Beautiful either way.
