Night Capture

Daylight saving finished in the early hours of this morning and we are back to NZ Standard Time. This means it is much lighter in the mornings which is good for my longer walks.
The darker evening had a bright side tonight.
Gruth, another Blipper, and I headed out in the dark armed with cameras and tripods and wearing our hi-vis clothing. We drove to a number of wineries, one well out in the country and the others all located in Riverlands Industrial Park near Blenheim.
Vintage is in full swing and I found the buzz and noise and activity very interesting. The wineries are all lit up with flood lighting, there is the hiss of steam, the trucks noises as they deliver tonnes of grapes, the hum of engines...it is stimulating and exciting.
The installations at these wineries have to be seen to be believed. I think they look beautiful at night and I don't even partake of their end products.
Gruth and I were in our element, moving from one site to another looking for the perfect shots.
We drove into various establishments looking very confident and giving a cheery wave to anyone who spotted us. The Hi-Vis clothing and confident air carried the day/night.
At our last port of call we were mistaken for Council inspectors. Having reassured the staff person that we were mere photographers and not there to check up on their activities she then proceeded to take us on a tiki-tour up huge flights of metal stairways and on to the catwalks along the top of the enormous tanks. The views were breathtaking but a little difficult to photograph as we could not use tripods on the metal grilled bottoms of the catwalks. We felt very lucky. It turned out this person is also a keen photographer and she may well come to Camera Club once vintage is over . We will be doing our best to return her hospitality and will make her very welcome.
Tonight's blip is the only establishment that I chose to photograph through the wire fence. The flag that is flying is Thai. This Wine Company makes a point of flying the flags of employees from different countries. A nice hospitable touch!
