………………….Tide at Motueka Beach

One of two blips uploaded tonight.

We swam further along the beach, in peace compared to the activity in the saltwater baths.
It was windier than usual today, but the water was warm and the air temperature very warm so it was a pleasant interlude to the day.

Covid update
This morning at 11am there was a special Government broadcast.
- At 11.59 pm tonight NZ will move to the Red setting of the traffic light system in response to 9 cases of the Omicron variant identified in Motueka (Nelson / Marlborough District Health Board) with no clear link to the border.
- The Government had announced recently that in the event of an outbreak of Omicron, all of NZ would move to the Red level to help take pressure off the health system and to protect those most at risk.
- These 9 cases flew to Auckland on 13th January to attend a wedding and other events.
- A fully vaccinated flight attendant, travelling on the same flight has since tested positive for Omicron
- "Omicron is circulating in either Auckland or the Nelson/Marlborough region if not elsewhere"

Today’s statistics
24 new community cases - 16 Auckland, 2 Northland, 1 Waikato, 5 Lakes
8 in hospital
0 in ICU
