St.Bryde’s Well

Obsession. If you’re going to have one this is probably one of the better ones. I’m really running out of interesting nearby wells now, but this well has been on my mind for ages, niggling away. I nearly went last weekend but realised my friends might not be so keen. So, after a very sleepless night I decided to head out for an eclectic day, collecting this well, a trip to nearby St.Kentigern’s churchyard and a return walk up to Repentance Tower to look out across the Solway and then back via the garden centre to try to get some thoughts about how to sort the garden.

Having scrutinised the map and checked any references I knew exactly where I was heading for and so the well was reasonably easy to find which was a relief as I wasn’t sure how much energy I had for scratting about. When I emerged out into the open from the woods by the river Annan I looked across the fields to see four deer in the distance. No white ones so no hint of St.Gobnait ; )
