Quiet flows the Itchen

Today my husband led a walk for the  Winchester local RSPB group, over and around St Catherine's Hill, and  along the  River Itchen. We had done a "recce" last Thursday when the  sky had been blue and the sun had shone all day. Today it was grey and dull all day, which  seemed to deter many  walkers and cyclists,  making  it quieter and more conducive to birdwatching for us. We  managed  to see a good number of birds, including   Redwing and  Stonechat, plus a Red Kite disturbing, and putting up a  large flock of Lapwing on the  lake at the  water treatment  works.
The blip is of the  River Itchen near St Cross where  we saw a couple of  Little Grebe.

Later, I made a batch of Date and  Lemon scones, as baked and recommended  by blipper  Walking Wombat, which are as  delicious as she claimed.
