This is Carl's barber shop and where I waited for my hairdresser to arrive and open up next door. As Carl said, and I agreed, Sue is quite often five minutes late, but it didn't matter at all to me as I'd already been to The Climbing Unit for an hour beforehand.

Later I phoned NHS Blood and told them that I'd decided to stop donating. I didn't realise that it took so long for the body to replace the iron lost in a donation of whole blood, and I'm hoping that hereafter I won't feel so tired when walking etc.

For more information see here, and here, where it says,

"When you donate whole blood you lose about 200-250mg of iron. In general, your body replaces that loss at the rate of only 1-2 mg per day (through dietary absorption) but this varies, depending on what your iron level was before donating, whether you’re taking any iron supplements, and whether your diet is iron rich."

My diet is fairly iron rich, although I don't eat as much meat as I used to, but I don't want to take iron supplements as they tend to give you constipation! I know my iron levels are borderline before donation because they quite often have to test me twice.

I've donated 39 times and it's a shame I can't carry on, but I need my iron!
