A fine wee book.

Burns Night 2022. Robert Burns born this day 1759. Haggis, neeps and tatties on the menu here this evening! The wee book has some background on Robert Burns and 13 of his best-known poems and songs; it’s said the songs and the poems of Robert Burns celebrate our common humanity and the values of solidarity and empathy. We watched some Burns pre-recorded and online features this evening, including “The Address to the Haggis” from University of Glasgow Burns Society. My wife knew some of the pieces, her choir has sung Burns’ songs at concerts. I listened to a few fine recitals of his poetry earlier. I noted lots of nice items and pieces shared on social media today, either personal or from recognised official collections. Great to see.

Was a regular Scottish Government covid19 statement at Holyrood today. First Minister confirmed that businesses can prepare to resume hybrid working from Monday 31 January, enabling more people to have a flexible return to working between home and the office. Some other minor changes. Omicron prevalence is dropping back, (albeit I heard of various folks affected yesterday!), except for u15 year olds where there’s been a surge. Schools no change for now.

Downing Street parties and Prime Minister; it rumbles on. The Met Police now investigating, along with Civil Service inquiry by Sue Gray. “A Parcel of Rogues” (Burns) comes to mind; good descriptor for those involved.
