A view from St Swithin

Ben Rinnes

I’d a walk up Ben Rinnes today. It’s the highest hill in Moray and is a well know landmark in the area with several granite tors on the top. We walked up a good track and then did a circuit of the tors. It was a cold and clear day - we could see North over the Moray Firth to Caithness and west to the Cairngorms.
In 1943 a Wellington bomber from RAF Lossiemouth crashed on the hill in a blizzard. There’s still a little wreckage to be seen (extra) but I suspect most has got buried in the heather. Sadly there are numerous aircraft wrecks on the Scottish hills - mostly from WW2.
