playful day

WE were not hit hard, we got a dusting, but it is very cold. Because it is very cold, Samuel acted like a puppy and played as much as he could with a 1.5 year old, solidly built, 90 lb dog named Bruno. Samuel couldn't run quite as fast but boy he had libido! This tends to make some humans uncomfortable even though Bruno didn't seem to mind. But, Samuel is a bit old for 90 lb body slams so we eventually stopped playing and escorted them home.

Bruno's owner is an engineer from Sri Lanka. My friend from Sri Lanka was deeply emotionally impacted by the terrorism during the war and her parents sent her and her sister out of the country as soon as it was time for college. Bruno's owner said that, growing up, he wasn't impacted and his parents never expressed concern. Odd. Such wildly different experiences.

Today's lesson:  saute the garlic before you begin sauteing the mushrooms. It was still delicious, but I do like garlic and so does Karen so she enjoyed the house smelling of it.

The recipe put it in the wrong order and Karen explained that the garlic needs more sauteing than the mushrooms can handle. Yet, you have to be careful not to burn the garlic.

The internet helps solve a cooking problem. Before, you needed all the ingredients of a recipe in the book, or I thought you did. Today I just looked online for recipes that required what I had, which was MUCH less frustrating.

I hope everyone is ok and has power.
