Storm Malik attacked with a vengeance causing a lot of travel disruption, trees to fall and power cuts in many places but we managed to escape lightly apart from falling slates, broken plants and a fence which looked as if it would blow right over.  The wind had abated a bit this afternoon but I decided it was too dangerous to go for a walk beside the local woods so just walked down the lane and along some fields.  This morning the postvan was very lucky to get along the lane shortly before the Heras fencing around the former farmyard blew down and the tree lost some of its branches.  Fortunately hardly any vehicles use the lane now apart from the bin lorry and the postvan on the way to the farm cottages. There is now another approach road for them but two old cottages along our road can only be accessed along the lane by anything larger than a van while our house is accessed at the back.  Perhaps with another severe storm forecast for tomorrow there will be more branches down and some very anxious people and busy emergency repair workers.
