Cruggleton Kirk

Cruggleton sounds as if it should be parish from Midsomer Murders, but it is a real church (sort of). It was rebuilt from a ruin for its nineteenth century land owner, a Marquess of Bute, based on what was known about its medieval structure. But the stones and arches are from the 12th century, and the tall Romanesque shape and high surrounding wall gives it a dark forbidding atmosphere. It's an enjoyable fake.
