NZ Autumn 2024

Dorothy May

Another day spent fettling at the apartment which has the added benefit of over looking the port and its nautical activity.
The fishing boat in the main Blip is the Dorothy May which was built in the South Islands Greymouth on the west coast in the late 1940's and ordered for use in Gisborne on the east coast of the North Island. As you can see from the Blip it is in fine condition and still in use as a commercial fishing boat unlike the little "fizz boat" which is recreational use only. For a bit of a tour of Dorothy May take a look here.
The Extra is of the accommodation block and bridge of Tokaroa Sun which is a fuel tanker.
Ever wondered why a ships bridge is called so?
In the days of paddle steamers there was a walkway between the top of the two paddle wheels and due to advantage of view from there the officers started running the ships from there. What do you call a walkway between two raised points?
A bridge so the ships were run from the Bridge.
