Harvest

Spent most of the day getting ready for the winter storm heading our way. We want to avoid the frozen pipes we had last year during the winter storm. So we left some vulnerable taps dripping slightly so the water doesn’t freeze in them. Also added some insulation around the outside taps.

I dug up the Turmeric roots so they don’t freeze, leaving some in the ground so they can grow back in the Spring. This was the harvest. Now I have to process them, either freeze or dehydrate them.

With David’s help I put compost down in the garden and then a layer of mulch to keep the compost from being washed away. With Daniel’s advice, I dug a trench to divert water away from our front path so it doesn’t get flooded every time there is heavy rain. David cleared all the fallen leaves and twigs from the gutters so they don’t block the downpipes.
Got some firewood stacked by the back door and I think we’re ready!
We will be closing BG tomorrow and probably Friday and all the schools are closed because the roads will be treacherous.
All those friends in Europe are probably laughing at the fuss, but Texans just aren’t used to this cold weather!
