Nose on the hide

We went to Køge Nord Railway Station for some training today.

Køge Nord is a big railway station with lots of space. It is perfect for some indoor training in a busy environment.

I did a dog dancing training session with each dog and then I put up Nose Work hides before Helle arrived and we searched with all 5 dogs - my 3 boys and Helle's 2 girls.

My picture today is Tango's nose on the hide. It is a cotton swab, which has been in a jar with a few drops of lavender oil. After about 24 hours in the jar, the cotton has absorbed scent from the oil. We then place the swabs in the search area and leave it for about an hour.

The dogs learn to associate the scent with the reward and that's why they are keen to find an odor that originally meant nothing to them.

See you tomorrow
