The Edge of the Wold

Morning sky

I miss my early morning walks with Gus.  Not so long ago we would have been looking at this sunrise from the top of the Knott.  But now he has a lie in, and we no longer manage an ascent of the hill before breakfast, or even after it.  The forecast for today was not encouraging, and viewing the morning sky from home, it looked like just before dawn would be the best time of the day for an outdoor photo.  This was taken from just up the road, from the Cemetery chapel, and shows the cluster of trees that remain in the grounds after a fair amount of tree management in the last few years.  For a few minutes we had a sky of molten lava, about 15 minutes before the sun showed over the horizon.  On the left hand side in the distance is Ingleborough, less well-defined than usual due to a capping of thin cloud.

Help arrived 24 hours after I made the call for help to repair the leaking cistern.  It took 10 minutes to cap the inlet pipe, and the cistern will be replaced later in the week.  The plumber was a very personable man, but he and his colleague who was working over the weekend, are run off their feet with far too few staff covering a huge geographical area.  And it turns out that replacement of the cistern is not covered by the policy, I hadn't spotted that in the small print.  It would have been better to use our plumber Phil who lives just round the corner, but I hadn't wanted to call him out on a Sunday when we had this policy.  But in the event I needn't have worried, for after I had stopped the immediate problem, he could have come at a time that suited him.  Oh well, live and learn!

After the sunrise it was grey, wet day, but we managed to get a lot sorted at home that needed sorting.
